Introduction

This blog is written by the staff at the Centre for Research-informed Teaching at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan).  See below for an introduction to us and what we do....

At the Centre we value the student experience and staff experience of research and teaching. We think research and teaching should be intertwined to provide the best learning experience for the students. It also enables the staff to talk about and get students engaged in their research passion. Below is the model on which much of our work is founded.

We provide opportunities and support for staff and students to do research and improve the teaching and learning experience. We conduct our own research and help improve the student experience.

Our Undergraduate research culture is one of the biggest in the country. We have held multidisciplinary undergraduate research internships for hundreds of students spanning 5 years so far, contributing to many published research outputs. Our students annually go to NCUR  (National Conference on Undergraduate Research) to present their research in America, in front of thousands of people. We were the first British University to present research at NCUR. We are also the founders of BCUR   (British Conference on Undergraduate Research).  We  have an opportunity each year for a student to take part in an international research exchange with America. We also publish high quality undergraduate research through our peer reviewed multidisciplinary journal Diffusion 

We support staff to publish in our in house peer reviewed journal, the Uclan Journal of Pedagogic Research, and provide a support network for academic staff, called the PRF  where we offer mentoring,  workshops, research presentations, and host an annual Teaching Exchange.
We also publish IMPACT guides to research-informed teaching in every school in the university, demonstrating good practice and giving examples of how effective research-informed teaching works.
